Volunteer Legal Services Welcomes Intern Melaine Gillette

Over the upcoming weeks, the King County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Services will be highlighting its 2013 summer interns and externs.

Melanie Gillette  joined the Volunteer Legal Services program as an intern in June. Melanie says that she  feels pro bono is important because “it helps bring legal aid and service to individuals and families who need help but are often unable to get it.”  She is interested in working with VLS as a way to learn how to connect and work with clients and to provide them with the legal resources that they need.

Melanie has lived in the Pacific Northwest her entire life. She was born in Kirkland, Washington, but grew up in Portland, Oregon, before moving back to Seattle to attend the University of Washington for undergrad. She took a year off after completing her undergrad degree in political science and environmental studies and worked as a waitress at Delfino’s Pizza in the University Village. Currently Melanie is about to start her second year at the UW School of Law.  In her free time, Melanie loves being outdoors and enjoys hiking, skiing and playing tennis, as well as baking. She also loves making spontaneous trips back to Portland on the weekend to visit her family and friends. Melanie currently lives in Ballard and loves walking around Ballard in the summer and checking out different cafés and restaurants.
